About

A production company that learned to build software

Creative Lab 1 started as a branding and media production studio. Then clients kept needing things that didn't exist yet (a system, a dashboard, an automation), and we got tired of telling them to go find someone else. So we learned to build it.

Our perspective

We're fuelled by a passion to inspire new perspectives. With unique global concepts and international diversity, we step outside of tradition and pull from all angles of creativity in order to produce work that speaks to all imaginations.

That was true when we were only making films, and it's why the software looks different too. We don't build what a template says a tool should be. We build what the person using it at 11pm on a deadline actually needs.

Why this combination is unusual

Plenty of studios can build you an app. Plenty of agencies can shoot you a campaign. Very few have done both, and the gap between them is where most work quietly falls apart: the system doesn't understand the workflow, or the content has nowhere to go.

When we built a tool to track a podcast's deliverables, we already knew a "clip" is never one task. It's an edit, a caption, a cover frame, an approval and a post time. Fifteen years on sets and in edit suites is the domain knowledge. it's the reason our software fits the way the work is really done.

Working across languages

Our team is international, and so is the work. We've shipped English/Spanish for an insurance agency serving the Inland Empire, English/Arabic for a maker selling to the Arab diaspora, and produced an Arabic-language interview series.

Bilingual isn't a translation pass at the end for us. It's designed in from the data model up, including right-to-left layout and proper Arabic typography. Very few studios in our bracket can say that, and for the right client it's the whole reason they pick us.

The team

Small,
senior, hands-on

The people you meet are the people who do the work. There is no junior layer to hand things down to, which is the point.

Saif Alshareef

Founder & Creative Director

Founded Creative Lab 1. Close to two decades in international multimedia, including a run as Creative Director at MBC, one of the largest broadcasters in the Arab world, where his motion graphics and VFX work drew clients worldwide. Now works at both ends of the studio: the creative direction, and the IT and automation systems behind it.

Mo Shareef

Managing Director

Runs the company day to day and sits across every project: production, automation and the platforms the studio runs on. Drove Creative Lab 1's move into building software, from the internal operations platform through to OneLab, the publishing product. Owns how the work reaches an audience once it is made.

Miami Abdulal

Head of Production

Runs the production side of the studio: commercials, branded films and the podcast. Nine years inside American network newsrooms, with more than 100 segments and TV episodes produced and two consecutive Golden Globes covered. Owns a shoot end to end: crew, schedule, the day itself.

Ahmed Alla

IT & Development

Ten-plus years in IT and development. Writes code and keeps the infrastructure standing, from the broadcast side through to the servers and platforms the studio's software runs on, plus e-marketing and SEO across every channel the work goes out on.
